On September 7, 1956, Kincheloe became the first pilot to exceed 100,000 feet in altitude, reaching a staggering 126,200 feet. Just 20 days later, Captain Milburn G. Apt would push the X-2 to its limits, achieving a top speed of Mach 3.2 (2,094 miles per hour) – a record that would stand for over a decade.
